That's where we'd slow down for a minute.
Not because finding the part is necessarily difficult, but because John Deere 6068 describes an engine family, not one single marine configuration.
There are 6068TFM, 6068AFM and 6068SFM engines, different generations and different cooling arrangements.
So before ordering a John Deere 6068 marine engine water pump impeller kit, it's worth identifying the engine and the pump that's actually fitted.

Yes.
RE503068 is a genuine John Deere reference for a Sea Water Pump Assembly, Marine.
That makes it a useful real part number to discuss when talking about older John Deere marine cooling systems.
But here's the important part:
We would not tell somebody:
“You have a 6068, so order RE503068.”
That's not how we recommend identifying the pump.
The installed pump needs to be checked against the specific engine model, serial number and cooling arrangement.

Why Can't I Just Search “John Deere 6068 Impeller Kit”?

But don't make the search result your final compatibility check.

My Impeller Is Damaged. Do I Need a Complete Water Pump?

There's no obvious leakage. The shaft doesn't have noticeable play. The internal surfaces aren't badly damaged.

The pump has been leaking for some time.
There's play in the shaft.

The seal has failed.

What Happens When Pieces of the Old Impeller Are Missing?
This is one of those small jobs that can turn into a bigger problem if it's ignored.
You remove the old impeller and count the blades.
A couple of pieces are missing.
Where did they go?
Somewhere downstream.
Those rubber pieces can move through the seawater circuit and potentially lodge in hoses, coolers, heat-exchanger passages or other restrictions in the raw-water circuit.
So don't just fit a fresh impeller and forget about the missing pieces.
If part of the old impeller has disappeared, inspect the downstream cooling circuit as appropriate for the vessel's installation.
A brand-new impeller can't compensate for a blocked cooling passage.
Why Did My John Deere 6068 Impeller Fail So Quickly?
This is another question worth asking before installing the next one.
An impeller is a service component, but if a relatively new impeller is badly damaged, there may be another reason.
Things worth checking include:
- Restricted seawater intake
- Closed or partly closed seacock
- Blocked sea strainer
- Pump running dry
- Debris entering the pump
- Incorrect impeller
- Damaged pump surfaces
- Shaft or bearing problems
- Incorrect installation
- Long periods without use
Here's a typical situation.
The impeller fails.
A new one is installed.
The engine runs again, but seawater flow still doesn't look right.
A short time later, the new impeller is damaged too.
The problem wasn't necessarily the impeller.
There may have been poor water supply to the pump all along.
That's why repeated impeller failure deserves more investigation than simply fitting another one.
My 6068 Is Overheating. Is the Impeller Definitely the Problem?
No.
A damaged seawater-pump impeller can certainly reduce raw-water flow, so it's one of the things worth checking.
But overheating doesn't automatically mean:
bad impeller = problem solved.
The cooling system has several things that can affect water flow and heat transfer.
Depending on the installation, these can include:
- Seawater intake
- Seacock
- Sea strainer
- Seawater pump
- Hoses
- Heat exchanger
- Coolers
- Thermostats
- Engine coolant circuit
So if the engine is running hot, inspect the system rather than replacing parts at random.
How Can I Tell if My 6068 Impeller Needs Replacing?
When you remove the impeller, look at the blades carefully.
Things that should get your attention include:
Cracks developing near the base of the blades
Missing pieces
Blades that have become permanently deformed
Hard or brittle rubber
Visible tearing
Heavy wear
Also look at what the old impeller is telling you.
If every blade is damaged in an unusual way, the problem may not simply be age.
The condition of the pump and water supply should also be considered.
Should I Keep a Spare John Deere 6068 Impeller Onboard?
For a vessel using a flexible-impeller seawater pump, keeping the correct spare impeller or service kit onboard can make good practical sense.
An impeller is small.
An overheating engine in the middle of an operation is not.
But there's an important word there:
correct.

What If I Have an Older John Deere 6068?
Older 6068 engines are exactly where you should be careful about assuming that the newest search result is the correct part.
John Deere has used different configurations across the life of the 6068 marine family.
One confirmed example is RE503068, which John Deere identifies as a marine seawater-pump assembly.
If you're working on an older engine and find RE503068 on the existing pump or in your documentation, keep that reference.
Don't immediately discard an older part number simply because another number appears online.
Part numbers can be superseded, and different engine configurations can use different assemblies.
The safest approach is to trace the installed component from the actual engine.
Heat Exchanger or Keel Cooled — Why Does It Matter?
Quite a lot.
John Deere 6068 marine engines can be found in different cooling configurations.
With a heat-exchanger arrangement, seawater is typically circulated through the marine cooling side so heat can be transferred away from the engine's closed coolant circuit.
A keel-cooled installation works differently.
That means searching for a John Deere 6068 seawater pump without knowing how the engine is cooled can send you in the wrong direction.
