The Engine Block Piston Cooling Nozzle helps to cool the piston during engine operation.

HOW IT WORKS

The nozzle sits above the upper main bearing shell. The nozzle is supplied with lube oil, which sprays up into the underside of the piston crown.

WHY IT MATTERS

The lube oil the nozzle sprays into the underside of the piston crown allows it to cool the piston during engine operation. By doing so, it prevents the piston from overheating, expanding, and seizing to the cylinder wall.
