Straight Pattern/ Z-Type/ Z Pattern
A Z-type globe valve has inlet and outlet ports in vertical alignment. The design of a straight pattern valve has a globoid body housing a moving disk connected to the stem at the lower end and a static seat. These structures boast a linear flow mechanism where the fluid inlet port is at the bottom and the outlet is at the top. During operation, the disk moves up and down to regulate the flow.
Y-Pattern
Y-pattern globe valves have the inlet and the outlet ports at a 45-degree angle. The framework supports applications requiring reduced pressure and turbulence within the valve body. It works excellently in minimizing erosion. The 45-degree angular flow path is ideal for operations where high temperature and high pressure are critical factors.
Angle Pattern
The orientation of inlet and outlet ports in the angle pattern valves is 90 degrees. The structure simplifies the process of changing direction for fluids. It is an excellent choice for applications where changing direction is essential in limited spaces.
How Does the Marine Globe Valve Work
The globe valve comprises a seat at the body’s center and always remains parallel to the pipeline. These valves feature a stem attached to the disk at the bottom and the handwheel at the top. The movable disk goes up and down when the handwheel rotates (manually or using an actuator). When the disk moves to the extreme bottom of the body, it closes the opening in the seat and sits on the seat ring to stop the flow. The flow resumes when the disk moves upwards, providing a gap for the fluid to pass through.
Material and Composition
Typically, the marine globe valves have a body of cast iron, carbon or stainless steel, and other alloys. Most of these valves have bronze disks and seat rings. The stainless-steel modules are ideal for applications where temperatures exceed 350°C. Heat-treating the mating faces for the required differential hardiness is easy with stainless-steel valves. It is also resistant to galling and seizing. Usually, globe valves have cobalt-based alloy trims.
